Girls Trip Review

Girls Trip Review

By Moise Michel

First and foremost I must say, GIRLS TRIP is the comedy of the year!!! It was hilarious from start to finish, especially Tiffany Haddish playing the wild crazy Dina. Jada Pinkett-Smith was the demure conservative nurturing Lisa. Sasha the gossip blog maven with her Sasha’s Secrets blog was played by Queen Latifah. Ryan Pierce, the self help motivational speaker and philanthropist played by Regina Hall, who also was the main character narrating the movie. These four women formed the click Flossy Posse!!!

They were high school buddies, who graduated together from FAMU and who took girl trips annually till their last one in 2012. Five years later, they reconnect in New Orleans for the Essence Festival where Ryan is the keynote speaker. Throughout the trip there were lots of laughs, tears, arguments and drama of all kinds. Supporting actors Mike Colter who played Stewart Pierce, is Ryan Pierce’s unfaithful husband. Larenz Tate is Julian Stevens aka Ju-Ju and is always their life saver whenever they’re in a crisis. While Kofi Siriboe is Malik, the young college frat guy who shares a hilarious scene with Lisa and the infamous grapefruit technique.

All in all, director Malcom D. Lee & executive producer Will Packer have a hit on their hands. With Tiffany Haddish becoming the breakout star of the movie. Girls Trip came in second place hauling in 30.8 million in the box office. Mind you, this is based off a 19 million dollar budget. It eclipsed Spider-Man: Homecoming and the 3rd installment of Planet of the Apes, while coming in second to the Dunkirk.

I urge everyone to go see it, you will definitely enjoy the movie in its entirety. It was such a beautiful thing to see all that black magic in this movie. Also, I’m hoping Will Packer & Malcolm Lee will plan on working on Part 2, 3 & 4 of Girls Trip. Btw, Hollywood stop comparing it to Rough Night….that movie is nowhere near Girls Trip!!!
